Beijing is supposed to host the summer Olympics, but the air pollution will be an obvious issue for the atheletes. According to The New York Times, “The concern is that respiratory problems could impede athletic performance and prevent records from being broken…Beijing is like an athlete trying to get into shape by walking on a treadmill yet eating double cheeseburgers at the same time.” This is a picture of Beijing residents in Tiananmen Square, used to pea-soup smog, who ignored a citywide stay-indoors warning on Thursday (check out the guy flying a kite).
